This study reports the experience of the use of Lidocaine 5% Patches off label in patients mainly with advance malignant disease in a specialist palliative care unit. A retrospective chart review was carried out of patients in the specialist palliative care unit. All patients who had a Lidocaine patch initiated as an inpatient over a one year period were included. A questionnaire to look at the wider experience of using Lidocaine Patches in palliative care in Ireland was sent to consultants and registrars working in palliative care in the Republic of Ireland.
